Peter Moores
Head Coach
Peter Moores’ rise through the coaching ranks was smooth and linear, but his first stint with the England team was rocky. After coaching the England A team and heading the ECB academy, he helped shape the careers of Matt Prior and Stuart Broad but clashed with star batsman Kevin Pietersen, who questioned his expertise and commitment. Following the spat, Moores was dismissed.
Unfazed by the setback, he guided Lancashire to the Championship title in 2011. After England’s 0-5 Ashes drubbing against Australia, Andy Flower stepped down, and Moores earned a second shot at coaching England. However, the dawn of England’s ‘new era’ under him was far from ideal, as they lost both the ODI and Test series against Sri Lanka.
Moores began his county career in 1983 as a wicket-keeper for Worcestershire before moving to Sussex, where he became a reliable gloveman with over 700 dismissals. Recognizing his leadership, Sussex appointed him captain in 1997, and a year later he became captain-cum-coach before retiring mid-season to focus on coaching. Five years later, he led Sussex to their first Division One County title in 164 years.
